BREAKING: National Citizens Coalition Issues Failing Grade to Mark Carney's Start in Office, as Job Losses, Unemployment, and Crime and Chaos Surge
September 5, 2025 – After unemployment hit 7.1% in August, the National Citizens Coalition (NCC) has released a blistering report card on Mark Carney's early tenure, assigning the former Brookfield executive and 'net-zero' global alliance leader (now defunct) a resounding "F" for failure across the board.
As Canadians grapple with economic turmoil, skyrocketing crime, and broken promises, Carney's leadership has worn the sheen of greater competence but has proven itself to be little short of a catastrophe, again prioritizing elite interests over the needs of everyday citizens.
"Mark Carney rode into office on a wave of hype and hollow pledges, but the reality, so far, has been a nightmare for hardworking Canadians," said NCC President Peter Coleman. "From tanking polls to unfulfilled trade bluster, soaring unemployment, and a ludicrous defence of the Liberal-explosion of exploitative foreign-worker practices condemned by the United Nations, Carney's honeymoon is over. It's time to call this what it is to date: the continued betrayal of the Canadian people by the jet-set crowd, who are more at home opining globally than acting locally, and who are woefully unqualified to deal with domestic despair and the crises of their own making."
Recent polls paint a damning picture, with support hemorrhaging back to the Conservatives on key domestic issues like the economy, public safety, and immigration. Carney's Liberals, once buoyed by President Trump's interference and all-but-endorsement, a hollow "elbows up" display of temporary nationalism, and media spin, are now regressing to the mean as voters wake up to the simple fact there has been much talk, but little action.
One of Carney's flagship promises -- an "elbows up" approach to trade negotiations -- has collapsed into farce. Touted as a bold strategy to protect Canadian interests amid global uncertainties, it has delivered zero results. Meanwhile, crime and chaos have exploded under Carney's watch. Urban centres are plagued by rampant theft, violence, and disorder, with law enforcement overwhelmed. Liberal-appointed judges, refusing to enforce the law evenly and equally, have forced communities to live in fear. This isn't progress; it's a regression to lawlessness that Carney's government seems utterly uninterested in addressing. His historically inept Justice Minister Sean Fraser, fresh off salting the earth at Immigration and Housing for entire generations, has flippantly claimed Canada is not the "Wild West."
No, Minister, if it truly were, more Canadians could afford homes, better defend themselves, and criminals would face justice or deportation; not more pats on the back and a same-day release.
The economic picture is even more bleak. Unemployment has surged to 7.1%, with youth unemployment hitting record highs, stranding a generation in hopelessness. Yet, amid this crisis, Carney and his cadre of transactional lobbyists continue to champion the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and International Mobility Program (IMP) -- a system slammed by the United Nations as a "modern form of slavery." This abusive program, while necessary for some, has been used by bad actors to suppress wages, encourages immigration fraud and exploitation, displaces Canadian workers, and has helped drive massive second-order effects on housing costs, health-care wait-times, and crime.

"Defending this travesty isn't leadership; it's complicity in breaking our immigration system and leaving our workers behind," Coleman added. "So far, Carney's priorities are clear: profits for his friends and corporate lobbyists, pain for the people."
The NCC calls on Canadians to join them in demanding accountability and real change at this vital moment. "This failing grade isn't just a mark on paper, it's an all-points bulletin," Coleman concluded. "We deserve better than all talk, no action, and the same gas-lighting routine of the last ten years. We can all see that this isn't getting better. The next ten years can't start like the last."
