Coleman: 'No' To Carney's 'New World Order' With China
This cannot be the moment we give Canada away, fully and permanently, to foreign interference.

Peter Coleman is President of the National Citizens Coalition.
As someone whom my friends would say is rarely lost for words or an opinion, the comment made by Prime Minister Carney during his recent suck-up tour to China -- about a "New World Order" -- left me strangely silent and wondering what he actually meant.
A New World Order for Canada, where we actually do something, build something, stop talking, and start doing? Yeah! I'd be all for that, and we at the NCC have been pushing hard for change for years.
But no, that's not what he was talking about. He's talking about using President Trump's actions as an excuse to fully embed with China, who the prime minister referred to as our "biggest security threat" mere months ago during the debates.
While our journalists were forced to use burner phones because they were being tracked by communist intelligence forces, Carney and his team of Trudeau cast-offs smiled while inspecting the People's Liberation Army, glad-handed with some of the world's worst who routinely interfere in our elections and threaten our citizens, and their social media teams have even cut hype reels set to flowery music, to underscore the insult to all those with better morals and who know that two wrongs don't make a right.
President Trump is indeed steamrolling many countries through his America First agenda. But over the last decade our response has never been Canada First. Our governments stand in the way of Canadian projects and employers, we have record unemployed, and we just spent the last few years flooding our borders and barely HIRING Canadian. And now we're China First?
Carney needs to set aside the ChatGPT speak and lay out in plain terms why, in April 2025, he said that China was the biggest security threat to Canada. Does he still feel that way? If so, he should communicate in layman's terms where he's headed on trade and other issues. That would be a refreshing turn of events. Carney continues to come across as an arrogant "I'm smarter than you, just believe me" kind of guy. He needs to do better in communicating what he's planning to do and be realistic as well.
The U.S. is far and away our biggest and most important trading partner -- at around 70% of our exports -- and it will always be our biggest because geography matters. Our two economies will always be intertwined, no matter what Carney or Trump say or do.
On a very snowy day yesterday, I was reminded that baseball spring training starts in a month. What Canada cannot afford to be is a bridesmaid caught between the much larger China and U.S. in their intensifying fight for global dominance. As a die-hard Toronto Blue Jays fan who just witnessed -- with no surprise -- that the prized free agent once again picked the dreaded Los Angeles Dodgers over us, I do not want Canada to continue to be in the runner-up position.
We have all the resources that the world needs, and we need to be moving at warp speed to get rid of impediments to building pipelines and creating real, sustainable wealth in this country. As one example of real, Canadian leadership, PM Carney needs to come back to Canada, actually stay for a few days, and tell people we need to move much faster on approving pipelines.
Yet even on that front, he spent the early part of this week protecting the foreign-funded lie that "Coastal First Nations" deserve a veto over Alberta's new pipeline. That's an NGO, and a tiny assembly of groups funded by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Tides; not a legitimate assembly of Indigenous interests.
We will continue the good fight, because we are treading into dangerous waters here.
We will continue to be the champions of the vast majority of Canadians who have seen our economic status decline and our role in the world substantially diminish under 10 years of virtue-signaling, and do-nothing governance.
This cannot be the moment we give Canada away, fully and permanently, to foreign interference and bad actors, just to spite President Trump, who won't be president forever.
Is this "New World Order" for Canadians, or for everyone but?
