NCC Calls for Ontario Election

Ontario Liberals squandering billions of dollars, NCC calls for provincial election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(March 9, 2017 - TORONTO) Today, the National Citizens Coalition is calling on Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne to resign as Premier and call an election immediately.

“Taxpayers have absolutely zero confidence in this government, as demonstrated by Premier Wynne’s abysmal approval ratings,” says Peter Coleman, President and CEO of the National Citizens Coalition. “Now she is trying to fool Ontarians with a hydro rebate that will only add to our skyrocketing public debt.”

The 17% rebate announced last week will cost taxpayers at least $1-billion each year, and with this government still facing a deficit of more than $2-billion these funds will need to be borrowed.

“Kathleen Wynne does not have a plan to balance the budget and strengthen the provincial economy,” adds Coleman. “She is scrambling to stay ahead of each new scandal and it is utterly disrespectful to the taxpayers who will be left to foot the bill for years of Liberal mismanagement. That is why we are calling for an immediate election today.”

Premier Wynne is facing increased pressure to step down from opposition MPPs and from Liberal supporters.

“Wynne’s refusal to acknowledge her own failures just confirms how disconnected she is from hard-working Ontarians and families. We have launched a new campaign on our website called Why Delay? Say Goodbye Today to demand accountability through an election,” continues Coleman.

“Kathleen Wynne and the provincial Liberal’s have driven Ontario’s economy into the ground, and it is time for change. It is time to focus on jobs growth and debt reduction but this government can only seem to focus on preserving its own image.”
