Election 2008

Surprise, Surprise -  The federal election is underway!

Prime Minister Stephen Harper met with the Governor General yesterday to dissolve one of the longest ruling minority governments in Canadian history.  It is no great surprise that this dysfunctional government has finally been put out of its misery.

We have been busy here at the National Citizens Coalition gearing up for this election.  We plan to be very active throughout the 37 day campaign with billboards, newspaper ads, radio spots, web video’s and daily blogs about the issues of the day.

We have polled our membership from across the country, and you have told us what issues matter most to you.  We will work hard to ensure that these are the issues that dominate the national debate.

We intend to address the increasing size and cost of government, the dangers of our Human Rights Commissions and choice in Healthcare.

We will address the Green Shift platform and expose this environmental plan for what it really is - a massive new tax on hard working Canadians.

Stay tuned to our daily blogs and please continue to send your comments and suggestions to ncc@nationalcitizens.ca.

This is one election the hard working taxpayer deserves to win - Let the games begin!

Let’s see which, if any, of the parties can come up with a consolidated plan to make Canada and Canadian business competitive on a global basis. We had “Japan, Inc.” years back, now “China Inc.” and “India Inc.” Time for “Canada Inc.” to get going. When the commodity boom ends (as all “booms” do end), what are we left with in Canada? Even the Americans, whom many Canadians are “proud” to make fun of on a regular basis, consistently outperform us in outright productivity and productivity improvement. How do we create and sustain value in the Canadian economy? Let’s see who, if anyone, has any good ideas - that do not involve more taxes and spending.

A very well thought-out approach to tackle a number of issues that are otherwise likely to be swept under the carpet. Kudos to the NCC staff. I will definitely be donating towards this initiative.

Shift now, or be unemployed later.

Here we go again. All about the present and no vision for the future. The tax shift is to create a competitive economy for the future. The Tories only care about re-election and the next election. No plan for a competitive Canada in the new Green economy!

Thank you for including freedom of Health Choice as an issue. The manner that Bill C51 was handled made more people angry than I have seen since the ’same sex’ vote scandal - ramming things thru the House at all cost - without input from the people. Already, many natural supplements and food alternatives (sugars etc.) are being stopped at the border because the Amercian distributors do not meet Health Canada’s approval list - even though the FDA has approved that product for Americans. The shelves of natural products in Canada are getting more and more empty - our freedom to chose is being held up due to poor management and leadership in what Health Canada is suppose to do. The Americans don’t need our market to survive and chose not to jump thru Health Canada’s hoops - isn’t that just great for the average Canadian. who continue to have less to chose from in natural supplements and foods.

You’ve got your priorities right! Time for a rational scientific discussion on environmental issues void of the Gore, Susuki, IPCC induced public hysteria. Let’s hear more from those who are best qualified to debate the merits or otherwise of carbon taxes and less from those who merely subscribe to currently popular, politicaly correct and generally scientifically and economically unsound views. Time too for a complete revampting of the handling of human rights issues that under HRTs are undermining our judicial and democratic institutions.

I am disappointed with the Conservative Party and the Government for not making more of the positive things that have been done by this government and also presenting their vision of what it wants to do that makes this election necessary, if it needs a larger majority in the House. Petty criticism of the opposition is not helpful or informative and voters need something substantial to vote on.

I am confused. I thought that the Cretien reforms to the Elections Act forbade 3rd party spending during elections to the princely sum of $3,000.00. How is it that you are going to mount this campaign without running afoul of the Act.

I’m very disgusted over the corporate handouts of MY money in the past week. How do you think the “successful”, “competing” auto mfgrs. feel about corporate USA getting THEIR tax dollars to compete against them. I can’t stand it. I thought Harper’s past involved him campaigning against the garbage that he just pulled off. I have been a loyal supporter of the PC’s and their free eneterprise stand up to now. No one gives me any handouts in my business. I make it or break it on my own. It’s MY tax dollars he’s throwing around! to these foreign owned coporations. It boils down to 100’s of thousands of dollars per employee. It is toally irresponsible! SMARTEN UP Harper! If you have to throw our money around, which I totally disagree with, at least spend it on well managed Canadian owned cos. with loyalty to Canada. No, I take that back, if they WERE well managed they’d survive on their own. Corporations should make it or break it on their own abilities. Period!

What happened to the gag law? Can the NCC be vocal during the run-off to the election. We wasted a lot of money on court cases. Fight on, you are on track, but don’t get back into court.

While we totally disagree with spending limits on any third parties and went to the Supreme Court to challenge the need for spending limits, the actual limits in place for this federal election for so called third parties like the NCC are $3,666 per riding and $183,300 on a national scale, so there is certainly financial room to get our message out on behalf of hard working Canadians who want real issues disccussed. Many thanks for your email and all of those who have posted so far- keep your comments and thoughts coming.
