My wife Janet and I had the pleasure of being invited to Families First- A Night to Remember in support of the Military Families Fund on November 3rd at the Canadian War Museum.
The National Citizens Coalition has always been a strong supporter of our military, and their efforts to bring peace and stability to countries around the world. The NCC has also been a strong supporter of the brave men and women who serve our country with honour and dignity.
During the dinner, I had the opportunity to speak with General Hillier, who expressed his appreciation for the support received from the NCC, and commented on how your generosity has made a difference by helping military families when they have needed it the most. The money raised for the Military Families Fund helps these families with short term emergencies and also provides long term support.
Rick Mercer was the Master of Ceremonies and he did a fantastic job in his usual witty fashion. His fondness of the troops and what they are doing was evident. When I spoke with Rick about spending last Christmas entertaining our troops in Afghanistan, he said it was a ‘no-brainer’ and was clearly proud to be able to show his support in a small way.

It was truly a memorable evening and one that made everyone in the room very proud to be Canadian. I was truly humbled by what our military is doing to make the world a better place. Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to the fund. It is great to know that this money is being used in such a worthy fashion.
NCC members and military supporters have raise $30,000 in support of our troops, and that money was presented to Military Families Fund earlier this year. Contributions to the NCC Support Our Troops fund continue to come in and we are very grateful for the support our members have shown.
