(Toronto, October 11, 2007) The National Citizens Coalition (NCC) today responded to the Liberal party’s majority victory in the Ontario election by setting out clear priorities for Dalton McGuinty and the Ontario government to follow over the next four years.
Â
“Access to healthcare should be the top priority of the Ontario government over the next four years,” said NCC president Peter Coleman. “The first promise Premier McGuinty needs to keep is the promise to hire more nurses and doctors in this province. There are over 1 million Ontario residents who do not have a family physician, and the first step to improving access to Ontario’s healthcare system is to hire the number of medical professionals necessary to meet the needs of this ever growing province.”
Â
“Ontario faces some significant problems with the Canadian dollar being so high and manufacturing jobs being eliminated” said Coleman. “The National Citizens Coalition recognizes that the second priority of the Ontario government needs to be creating a tax environment that will attract new manufacturing jobs to the province, and keep the existing ones here. We plan to be a thorn in McGuinty’s side when it comes to the Ontario economy, and will continue to put pressure on the government to ensure our manufacturing industries and economic well being are protected.”
Â
Dalton McGuinty should not be over confident following last night’s election results. The Liberal party did not win the Ontario election, John Tory and the PC Party lost the Ontario election. The Conservative campaign was at best a disaster and McGuinty was handed a majority mandate as a result of the shortcomings of John Tory and the PC party.
