You know Parliament is an embarrassment when…

Many Canadians were outraged when our federal government decided it would be a good use of taxpayer time and money to question Hockey Canada’s decision to name Shane Doan as the national team captain. Most did not think our politicians could sink any lower.

But, the very well-paid men and women who represent us in Ottawa managed to trump that embarrassment yesterday when a near brawl broke out in the House of Commons.

This article describes in detail the behavior of Royal Galipeau and David McGuinty during question period on Wednesday. It is behavior most of us would face immediate termination for.

Perhaps our elected representatives should put the BBQ circuit on hold this summer and participate in a crash course on professionalism and what it means to represent this country.

Allan Johnson says:

Are there no consequences for unacceptable behavior? We don’t tolerate it in the home and we don’t tolerate it in the workplace. Why are the rules different when it comes to politics? A suspension, a fine or even charges would be appropriate if there were grounds for it. There were enough witnesses to verify the behavior. Time to toughen up. Allan Johnson

I think it was a parlimentary commitee that called Hockey Canada in to question them,
not the federal government. Big difference.
