This article in today’s Chronicle Herald demonstrates how the once all mighty Liberal Party of Canada is moving left and sinking fast.
Since winning the Liberal leadership in December 2006, Stephane Dion is quickly becoming the biggest train wreck in Liberal history. With so-called ‘star” candidates of the likes of Paul Martin, Bill Graham, and most recently Belinda Stronach, dropping like flies around him, Mr. Dion appears to be making a political move that will seal his fate as Liberal leader.
In a move that has dumbfounded party insiders and political junkies alike; the Liberal leader seems to have decided against running a candidate in the riding of Central Nova. Instead he wants to make room for Green party leader, Elizabeth May to take a run at upsetting Peter McKay.
The idea of stepping aside, so the leader of a party that has never held a seat in the commons can win a riding that has been held by the very Tory McKay family for some thirty years just doesn’t seem like good politics to me.
I could be wrong here, but it would appear as if the “Natural Governing” party of Canada is on a ship that is slowly sinking.
