I watched the Vimy Ridge ceremony on Monday and felt a great sense of pride in our country and for those soldiers who fought in such a terrible battle that had such devastating casualties.
To see the memorial sitting high up on the hill and to realize that our very brave soldiers had to fight their way to the top of the hill under an overwhelming bombardment really gave the whole battle a different perspective.
The ceremony was dealt with in a very classy manner that would have made the families of our soldiers very proud for what they actually accomplished.
The truly inspiring part of the ceremony was to know that over 3,500 Canadian students made the trip to honour our fallen soldiers at their own cost. The fact that each student had to research one of the soldiers and had to be able to talk about them was truly inspirational. It was a lesson they would never have been taught in our politically correct classrooms.
It is sad to see that our children are not taught more about our past in their classrooms, including our military battles. Politically correct educators do not want to spend time talking about this. If we are to try and avoid such things in the future, we must remember our past and do all that we can to try and avoid history from repeating itself.
Congratulations to Prime Minister Harper for his excellent speech and to all those inspirational students and veterans who made the long trip to France. They did us all proud.
