NCC Takes on Bill 257

Here’s a news release I just sent out:

NCC Ad Campaign To Oppose Bill 257
(Toronto February7)The National Citizens Coalition (www.nationalcitizens.ca) is launching a multi-media ad campaign to stop Bill 257, a proposed law which would ban federally regulated companies such as banks and airlines from hiring replacement workers.

“This bill is bad for Canada’s economy, it’s bad for Canadian consumers and it’s bad for unionized employees” says NCC vice president Gerry Nicholls. “That’s the message we want to get out through newspaper ads, through the Internet and through radio spots. We want Canadians to demand the House of Commons kill this bad bill.”

Nicholls says the NCC ads will focus on urging Canadians to contact Liberal leader Stephane Dion.

“The fate of this bill really rests with Mr. Dion,” says Nicholls. “We know the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP support Bill 257, and that most Conservatives oppose it. That means the Liberals will have the deciding vote.”

Nicholls says, if passed, Bill 257 would mean more power for union bosses, more strikes for Canada and less freedom for unionized employees.

“This bill would undermine Canada’s competitiveness, drive away investment and infringe on the freedoms of unionized employees,” says Nicholls, who notes Bill 257 would make it illegal for even unionized employees to cross a picket line.

This is a rebuttle about your stance on bill 257. Without this bill this country will become a third world country in a hurry. The companies are sucking the life out of their employees for the mighty dollar. Union bosses are just employee representatives and they are there for the employees best interest. In past experiences we have had replacement workers in during a lockout initiated by the company and employee relations have not fully recovered since.

First off…. NCC should stand for National Conservative Coalition, which would explain your anti-bill 257 stance. A quick whois of this site does reveal Ken Wakeman is the owner of this site and also a card carrying member of the conservative party. See: http://www.cpcnewmarketaurora.ca/pr01.htm and you’ll see that Ken is on the 2006 Board of Directors as vice president, membership. Gee I wonder where Ken’s loyalties lie, ummmm Big Business maybe?

Feel free to post your opinions to the world…. but National Citizens Coalition, c’mon. The name would suggest that you represent my best interests, when really this is just a Conservative Party portal.

On another note in regards to your website, you have a technical glitch. When you Leave a Comment, the last person that has left a comment has their information still posted there. When I scrolled down to leave a comment myself I noticed that the last person to comment was Al Gallien and his email which, “will not be published” is prominently there…. hence, why I didn’t leave a real email address.

In conclusion, I completely disagree with the blog article and feel that I would rather live with disruptions in my daily routine if it means Canadians are fighting to keep what they have, looking out for the future generations, and maybe even asking for a little more in the face of these multi-million, multi-billion, multi-national etc etc corporations. This bill isn’t going to prevent a company from doing what they want anyway….. it does prevent them from completely crushing a union and the “Citizens” that work for it.

And that is my opinion.

1) Third world - that’s where the work is heading anyway, companies can’t keep up with union greed.
2) Almighty dollar? A line worker gets $30.00 per hour - what do you think that costs the company? $60.00 or more.
3) Employee relations have not fully recovered largely because of the bullying of replacement workers. The intimidation, name-calling, harrassment seemingly endorsed by Union bosses must indeed be quite hard to recover from. Unions have taken away workers’ freedom of choice so really, who are the dinosaurs in today’s world?

Leo Liberal says:

And to add to the above…when is the “S” word going to seen for what it is: discriminatory, aimed at demeaning, used by bullies to intimidate and solely to harrass. Come on Canada! We’ve stepped up to the plate on other derogatory terminology yet this “S” word can be screamed, yelled, posted on websites, pasted on posters and used on billboard signs by our highways and on the front lawns of our town halls! There is other acceptable language.
