Climate Change Politics

Yesterday in the House of Commons Liberal leader Stephane Dion called Prime Minister Stephen Harper the worst thing you could call somebody these days: a “climate change denier”.

No doubt, Harper will vehemently deny this serious charge –but surely that’s not enough.

Surely, the only way the Prime Minister can truly establish his eco-friendly credentials is to ruthlessly root out these “climate change deniers” who threaten our society.

And the best way to do that would be to set up a House of Unenvironmental Activities Committee with the power to investigate and expose the non-believers.

As a good “green” citizen, I am willing to do my bit.

To help the HUAC do its job I have even put together this handy list to help citizens spot these “climate change deniers” in our midst:

* Watch out for any citizen who refused to take the “One Tonne Challenge”.

* Be on the look out for people who throw their newspapers in the “glass only” section of recycling bins.

* Warning bells should go off if your neighbor named his dog, “Kyoto Science is Flawed”

* Keep your ears peeled for any passerby who takes the name of David Suzuki in vain.

* Does your co-worker refuse to wear green ties?

If you notice any of this behaviour, report it immediately to the government.

We can’t afford to have even one citizen thinking freely when it comes to the Kyoto Accord.

Glen Bogart says:

I have listened to many of experts regarding climate change and it is not conlusive that fossel fuels are the only issue, there is land use change and cycles of weather to consider as well.

Before we throw out the baby with the bath water maybe we should be sure.

Canada’s constribution either way is so tiny it is hardly worth spending any time on let alone Millios of dollars and jobs losses.

John MacLean says:

As I am sure you are aware, the National Post has been running a series on “The Deniers”. One particularly interesting Denier is Habibullo Abdussamatov , who is head of the Russian Academies of Sciences’ Pulkovo Observatory in St. Petersburg, and of the International Space Station’s Astrometry Project. Dr. Abdussamatov points out that there is global warming ocurring on Mars, parallel to what is happening on earth, and, the only logical conclusion is that the warming is a natural cycle of increased irradiance from the sun. Furthermore his agencies studies predict that we are now entering a cooling cycle, demonstrated by cooling ocurring in the upper layers of the world’s oceans.
Maybe we can understand now Russia’s reluctance to join Kyoto.

Yours truly,

John MacLean

Ted Thompson says:

What started out this fall as a simple inquiry into the nature of climate change has turned into an obsession. I have currently logged over 1,000 hours of research into the subject and am only beginning to appreciate the complexity of the myriad issues surrounding the subject. I have stayed within the boundaries of accepted science and now understand how and why the science is being perverted by a strange and unlikely alliance of politicians, media and scientist activists. One day in the near future, Al Gore will be seen for what he really is, another failed politician attempting to reinvent himself using the politicians methodoligy of lies, distortions and out of context half truths. Do the research. Sincerely, Ted Thompson
